Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
This policy covers this website, cadencecaptions.com. It does not describe the Cadence iPhone app, which has no cookies, no analytics, and no network activity beyond downloading speech models. See the for the app.
The short version
- Until you answer the banner, this site stores nothing on your device at all.
- If you press Decline, no tracking cookie is ever created; we store only the fact that you said no.
- We use one analytics tool, PostHog, to count pageviews.
- We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not share anything with ad networks.
What we use
We use to count how many people visit each page. That is the whole purpose. It tells us whether the accessibility pages are being read and whether anyone reaches the download link.
We have deliberately turned off the parts of PostHog that would collect more than that:
- Autocapture is off. We do not record your clicks, scrolls, or form input.
- Session recording is off. There is no replay of your visit. We cannot watch what you did.
- Profiles are off for anonymous visitors. We do not build a record about you across visits.
Before you choose
When you first arrive, analytics run in cookieless mode. Nothing is written to your device: no cookie, no local storage entry. Your visit is counted using a privacy-preserving hash generated by PostHog, which cannot be used to recognize you later or to link one visit to another.
If you never respond to the banner, this is what continues to happen.
If you decline
Cookieless mode stays on: no tracking cookie is created, and your visits are not linked to one another.
Your choice is remembered so we stop asking. That is stored two ways: in your browser's local storage under cadence.analytics-consent, holding the single word denied, and in the __ph_opt_in_out_* cookie listed above, which records the refusal itself. Both exist only to honour your answer, contain nothing about who you are, and never leave your browser.
If you accept
PostHog sets a first-party cookie so that repeat visits can be recognized as the same browser. This is what turns a raw hit count into "roughly how many distinct people read this page."
The second cookie is set whichever way you answer; it is how your choice is remembered. If you decline, it stores only the fact that you declined, and no tracking cookie is created.
The cookie is first-party: it is set on cadencecaptions.com, and analytics requests are routed through this domain rather than to a third-party analytics host.
What is processed either way
Any web request necessarily reveals your IP address to the server receiving it. PostHog uses it to derive an approximate location, typically country or region, and does not store the full address alongside your events. Your browser also sends its user agent, which tells us the browser and operating system.
We do not attempt to identify you from any of this, and this site has no accounts, no login, and no contact form that would let us.
Changing your mind
Clearing your browser's cookies and site data for cadencecaptions.com resets the decision, and the banner will ask again on your next visit. Declining then removes the analytics cookie described above.
Most browsers can also block cookies entirely, per-site or globally. Doing so will not break anything here; this site is a set of static pages and does not need cookies to function.
Do Not Track
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it: analytics stay in cookieless mode regardless of what the banner says.
Changes
If we change what this site collects, we will update the date at the top of this page and ask for consent again rather than silently widening a permission you already gave.
